New Xbox Experience – Rip to Hard Drive

In the New Xbox Experience you can rip games to your consoles Hard Drive (assuming that you have enough room). I’m going to tell you how, and i’m also going to tell you the time it took for certain games to install to the Hard Drive. These results are from my Xbox 360 Elite which I believe runs on the Jasper chipset.

First of all, i’m going to tell you how to install games to your Hard Drive, Firstly, I recommend jumping in to the System Settings. This can be found in the “My Xbox” channel and is the furthest option on the right. Go to Console Settings and disable Auto Start. This makes the entire process a lot easier. Now insert the game that you want to copy to your HDD in to the console. Jump back to the “My Xbox” channel and scroll over to the selection that shows the game you put in. Press the Y button and press on “Install to Hard Drive”. The process will take a couple of minutes. Below I have the times it took for my Xbox 360 along with the ammount of space it takes on the Hard Drive:

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare: 11 minutes, 38 seconds. Takes up 6.7GB on the Hard Drive.

Gears of War 2: 11 minutes, 44 seconds. Takes up 6.7GB on the Hard Drive.

Halo 3: Failed due to scratched disc. Will have to borrow someone else’s copy.

Fable 2: 11 minutes, 53 seconds. Takes up 6.8GB on the Hard Drive.

If you’re wondering what I used to record the time it took to rip the game to the Hard Drive I used an online stopwatch on my computer. Obviously I expect that the time it takes for a game to copy to your Hard Drive will probably vary depending on various situations.

Also, I would recommend having at least 7GB of free space on your Hard Drive before installing a game.
